Education
Greater Carrollwood is part of the excellent Hillsborough County Schools. Although the district is home to numerous schools, children of Greater Carrollwood attend Carrollwood Elementary, Adams Middle School and Chamberlain High School. In addition to a number of public schools, Greater Carrollwood is home to many charter and private schools.
A number of excellent higher educational instructions prosper in the greater Tampa area as well. St. Petersburg College, located in St. Petersburg is a private university that offers four year and two year degrees in a variety of subjects. Multiple campuses exist across Florida and it has been ranked as one of the “Top Ten Nation’s Tech-Savvy Community Colleges” as well as ranked number four in the nation for the number of associate degrees given in Nursing. Other local colleges include the Art Institute of Tampa and the University of South Florida.
Attractions
Shopping enthusiasts will want to visit the Citrus Park Town Center, one of the largest shopping outlets in the Tampa area. Popular stores include Dick’s Sporting Goods, Macy’s, Pottery Barn, Bath and Body Works, and Brookstone. Theatre patrons will find that the David A. Straz, Jr. Center, a non-profit venue, serves as an excellent venue for a number of theatre productions and live performances. Previous productions have included South Pacific, magic performances by David Copperfield, Mary Poppins, and Godspell. If you’re looking to have dinner before the show, a number of restaurants are located in the theater itself.
Located just minutes away from Greater Carrollwood is Busch Gardens, a world-renown theme park. The fun never stops with numerous rides, food, and live animal attractions. Some of the most popular rides include ShieKra, a roller coaster that truly tests the brave with a ninety foot drop; Congo River Rapids, a daring rafting adventure; and Rhino Rally, a wild jeep tour that takes guests through the park to view the animals. Popular animal attractions include the Bird Gardens, which features over 500 different colorful birds from around the world and the Edge of Africa, and a walking tour where one can observe hippos, lions, hyenas, lemurs, meerkats and crocodiles within their habitats.
Parks & Recreation
Due to the community’s close proximity to many stunning lakes and parks, residents enjoy sailing, boating and fishing, as well as picnicking and hiking. Lake Magdalene, located only a few miles away from Greater Carrollwood, is a popular spot for being in the great outdoors, as is Egypt Lake.
For residents truly craving the ocean air, the Gulf Beaches of Florida are only an hour away. These stunning beaches are popular spots for snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing and kayaking. Visitors particularly enjoy taking Sunset Cruises where they get to enjoy a delightful dinner while watching a spectacular Florida sunset. Egmont Key, an island located of the west coast of Florida, is a truly amazing find as it features a lighthouse, ghost town, mysterious fort, and dozens of sea turtles. Fort DeSoto also remains a top pick for Tampa residents to spend their days with sparkling clear water to frolic in and great spots along it for picnicking.
If you’d rather stay on land, the Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa is rated as one of the top 100 Golf Resorts by Conde Nast Traveler magazine. This fine course boasts two courses designed by Arnold Palmer and each course incorporates the stunning scenery around it, with rolling fairways, well maintained greens and cypress, pine, and palm trees. In addition, the course is home to the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy, 45 fine tennis courts as well as a tennis academy, sports bars, pool café, and five-star restaurants.
